Jet Lag & Shamian Island

Kathryn and Mom are caught taking a nap after doing a little shopping around Shamian Island. We are all feeling the effects of jet lag. We are glad we decided to arrive a day before Gotcha Day so that our bodies will at least be a little better adjusted before receiving Kimberly!

We forgot how much the small businesses (e.g. Jennifer's Place, Jenny's Place, etc.) must compete for the tourist/adoptive family market. Each of the shops have, more or less, the same items (e.g. jade "mother-daughter" pendants, little girl clothes). Thus, they try to attract customers and make sales by offering other services (e.g free internet access, laundry), using hard sales tactics, bargaining, offering free items, or just being very friendly (or a combination of the above). We will be here for two weeks, so we have plenty of time to shop around.
